Measuring Platelet Function in Clinical Trials
At Java Clinical Research we are world experts in the measurement of platelet function in clinical trials. Java’s Scientific Director, Prof Des Fitzgerald, is a worldwide authority in this area, with vast knowledge and experience of the application and interpretation of platelet function testing in pharmaceutical development.
Platelet Function Analysis is particularly important for certain clinical research areas:
- Drugs developed as inhibitors of platelet function (antiplatelets) naturally need extensive platelet function testing. (see our case study of a phase II trial)
- Drugs whose mechanism is likely to directly interfere with platelet function benefit from preclinical platelet testing to characterise this effect. (see our case study of preclinical work to measure IC50 values)
- Drugs that are in the same class as others which have effects on platelets may be tested to show if they also modify platelet responses as a side-effect. (see our case study of FDA-mandated testing for this reason)
